Inspired by the lush forests of Costa Rica, Aranyani is an exploration of wildness, stillness and the untamed beauty of nature.
The piece was commissioned to evoke the deep greens of the Costa Rican jungle, the presence of wild animals hidden within the foliage, and that particular sense of peace that comes from being completely immersed in the wilderness.
Its title refers to Aranyani, the ancient Hindu goddess of the forest - a spirit of the wild who embodies the abundance, mystery and freedom of nature and is traditionally associated with the animals that inhabit it.
Rather than depicting the forest literally, Aranyani captures its energy: dense, vibrant, mysterious and alive, with moments of quiet emerging through the movement and layers of the painting.
A celebration of the wild - and of the feeling of becoming still enough to hear it.
