This piece was commissioned as a deeply meaningful birthday gift for a loved one — an original artwork inspired by the emotional memory of a place that had shaped a lifetime of treasured moments.

My collector invited me to create a bespoke painting inspired by L’Île d’Yeu, France, a place woven with joyful memories in the life of the person for whom the artwork was commissioned.

Through our conversations, I could almost step into those memories myself.

By listening to stories of long summer days, shared laughter and peaceful moments by the sea, I could sense the atmosphere of this special island: the softness of salty air, the warmth of the sun on skin, the gentle breeze and the feeling of freedom that certain places quietly imprint upon us.

L’Île d’Yeu became not simply a landscape remembered, but a place deeply felt.

When creating a commissioned artwork, my intention is rarely to reproduce a place literally.

Instead, I seek to translate what lives underneath: emotion, energy, memory and sensation.

For this original painting commission, the process became an invitation to transform personal stories into colour, movement and atmosphere — capturing not only the beauty of a landscape, but the emotional resonance it continues to hold.

As a contemporary artist, I am endlessly fascinated by the invisible forces that shape us: memory, emotion, sensuality, connection and the places that quietly remain within us long after we leave them.
